My grandparents\u2019 small home was a place where nothing\u00a0was in excess except comfort, peace, and laughter. As a\u00a0child I would stay the night with them at their house.\u00a0Grandma and I would sleep in their bed while Grandaddy\u00a0slept on the couch. I slept so deep in those cool sheets, thinned\u00a0by time, knowing they were there with me. When I was\u00a0older and I\u2019d visit, tired by the demands of an adult day,\u00a0Grandaddy would say \u201cgo in there and stretch out\u201d meaning\u00a0go take a nap. I\u2019d refuse because I was too busy and he\u00a0would urge me to, until I found myself in a deep sleep in thosesame familiar sheets. I now realize it was their gift to me,\u00a0peace and rest in the midst of a chaotic day. They knew\u00a0what I needed more than I did. This piece, on fabric reminiscent of their sheets, commemorates memories made in the home of some of my dearest\u00a0friends, where laughter abounded, needlepoint projects hung on the walls and were seen in process on a nightstand, and kindness beamed from wrinkled faces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
